AP Italian Lang & Culture

This course is comparable in content and difficulty to a 4th semester college course and will develop students’ proficiency in interpersonal, interpretive and presentational communication in Italian through oral activities, detailed reading / listening and purposeful essay writing. It also increases student understanding of the products, practices and perspectives of the Italian culture through a variety of authentic sources. This course will include daily homework and outside reading. Instruction is exclusively in the target language as required by the College Board.It is highly recommended that students take the Advanced Placement examination in May. Those who show themselves qualified on the AP exam may receive advanced placement and/or credit at many colleges and universities.

ITALIAN 1-2

Students communicate content related to self and very familiar daily topics in the target language using primarily authentic materials from the target culture, as stated in the State of California Standards for World Languages, Novice Level.  Course incorporates the cultural products, practices, perspectives and social conventions of the target culture in all three modes of communication- interpretive, interpersonal and presentational.   Instruction is primarily in the target language as directed in the State of California Foreign Language Framework.

ITALIAN 3-4

Students communicate content related to self and the immediate environment in the target language using primarily authentic materials  from the target culture, as stated in the State of California Standards for World Languages, Intermediate Low-Mid Level.  Course incorporates the cultural products, practices, perspectives and social conventions of the target culture in all three modes of communication- interpretive, interpersonal and presentational.   Instruction is almost exclusively in the target language as directed in the State of California Foreign Language Framework.

ITALIAN 5-6

Students communicate content relating to most formal and informal topics of general public interest, using various timeframes, in the target language.  Resources are primarily authentic materials from the target culture as stated in the State of California Standards for World Languages, Intermediate Mid-Advanced Low levels.  Course incorporates the cultural products, practices, perspectives and social conventions of the target culture in all three modes of communication- interpretive, interpersonal and presentational.   Instruction is almost exclusively in the target language as directed in the State of California Foreign Language Framework.

ITALIAN 7-8

Students communicate in the target language about topics from broad general interests to unfamiliar, abstract,  and hypothetical areas of specialized professional and academic expertise.  Resources are  authentic materials from the target culture as stated in the State of California Standards for World Languages, Intermediate Mid-Advanced Low levels.  Course incorporates the cultural products, practices, perspectives and social conventions of the target culture in all three modes of communication- interpretive, interpersonal and presentational.   Instruction is exclusively in the target language as directed in the State of California Foreign Language Framework.

ITALIAN IB HL

This course is comparable in content and difficulty to a 4th semester college course and will develop students’ proficiency in interpersonal, interpretive and presentational communication in Italian through oral activities, detailed reading / listening and purposeful writing of a variety of text types. The course develops and increases students’ understanding of the products, practices and perspectives of Italian cultures through reading, listening and viewing of a variety of authentic texts in the target language. This course will include daily homework and outside reading. Instruction is exclusively in the target language as required by the IBO. Students are highly encouraged to take all stages of the IB exam. Those who show themselves qualified on the IB HL Exam may receive advanced placement and/or credit at many colleges and universities.

ITALIAN IB SL
