International Baccalaureate Program

The IB Program is a rigorous academic program which offers students the opportunity to earn an international high school diploma accepted and recognized in over 150 countries worldwide as both a graduation diploma and a means of entering university in any of those over 150 countries.  In the US, IB diplomas are highly respected and are an advantage to those wishing to attend a prestigious university. World Languages are an integral part of the IB Diploma Programme. Sweetwater has two IB World Schools, Castle Park High School and Bonita Vista High School.

Biliteracy Programs

Biliteracy programs support the maintenance and/or development of language for English language learners. Other biliteracy programs (two-way bilingual immersion [TWBI] and dual language) integrate language minority students (English learners) and language majority students (English speakers) to develop bilingualism and biliteracy in English and another language.

California State Seal of Biliteracy

The State Seal of Biliteracy (SSB), per Assembly Bill (AB) 815 is a program that recognizes high school graduates who have attained a high level of proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing one or more languages in addition to English. The SSB will be awarded by the State Superintendent of Public Instruction in accordance with specified criteria set forth in the legislation.  This program is available at all district high schools.

Linguistic Exchange Programs

Linguistic exchange programs are homestay programs which provide Sweetwater World Language students with the opportunity to travel abroad for 2-4 weeks and study in a school in the L2 (second language) of their choice.  Some schools offering linguistic exchange programs are Hilltop High School, Bonita Vista High School, Chula Vista High School and Otay Ranch High School.
